Our Mission Statement declares that it will "promote and direct the Australian National Piano Award as
a competition of the highest calibre, nationally and internationally recognised for its standard of
excellence, its challenge to the participants and its educational benefits to youth".
It was designed by Professor Max Cooke OAM. and Darryl Coote to meet the need for a bridging
competition to ready emerging young Australian pianists for international competition and a concert
career. · It recruits young pianists via circulating its information details to university schools of music,
leading music teachers and other advanced institutes of music in all states.
The competition is not judged on a single flashy performance. Instead, throughout a series of recitals,
contestants must demonstrate a sound technique alongside a broad knowledge of a varied and
comprehensive repertoire.
